As anticipation builds for the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, the legendary skateboarder has expressed his hopes for more remakes, specifically eyeing a revitalization of the beloved Tony Hawk’s Underground.
In a recent conversation with Screen Rant, Hawk noted that while the momentum for remakes largely hinges on his collaboration with publisher Activision—and, more broadly, its parent company Microsoft—he remains committed to advocating for these projects. “I’ll campaign all I can,” he affirmed.
Hawk’s influence seems to have some impact, as evidenced by the last-minute decision to include skater Bam Margera in the lineup for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
“I always have aspirations,” Hawk commented on the possibility of remastering Underground next. However, he acknowledged the reality: “It’s generally not up to me. I’ll push for it, but I’m navigating a much larger company with a lot more expertise.”
When questioned about the timing for a potential Underground remake, considering the upcoming release of Pro Skater 3+4, he replied, “Yeah, we haven’t even launched this game yet.”
Activision had been leaning towards not extending the Tony Hawk’s franchise any further, even after the warm reception of Pro Skater 1+2 in 2020. The studio behind those classics, Vicarious Visions, was integrated into Blizzard, leaving the future of Hawk’s skating adventures in uncertainty.
Yet, subtle hints from Hawk himself regarding discussions with Activision eventually shifted the outlook. Recently, Activision hinted at a Pro Skater 3+4 remake during Call of Duty events, making the project official on March 4th.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 is set to be released on July 11th for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and it will also be available through Game Pass Ultimate.
