This feels akin to Dead Reckoning part 2 — I still think this saga could have been condensed into one epic film, yet it remains thoroughly entertaining.”

Nevertheless, The Final Reckoning isn’t without its challenges. One notable issue is its substantial runtime of approximately 170 minutes, making it the franchise’s longest entry. While this extended duration is only slightly longer than 2023’s Dead Reckoning, which audiences seemed to embrace, the longer runtime could leave some viewers feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of action.
In summary, it appears that despite some lulls in pacing, The Final Reckoning has struck a chord with die-hard fans who’ve supported the franchise for nearly two decades. If Tom Cruise manages to weave together exciting action with a meaningful tribute to the journey thus far, the lengthy runtime may not be a drawback at all. However, we’ll all have to wait until next Friday, May 23rd, to experience it for ourselves. Before that, The Final Reckoning will be showcased out of competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off today.
On the box office front, The Final Reckoning is anticipated to be a major success, with early forecasts suggesting an opening weekend revenue of about $80 million, which could set a new record for the series’ debut.
