Last Friday, the Sheraton Gardens buzzed with joy, humor, and a touch of playful mischief as the Comedy Grill celebrated a decade of Anne Kansiime’s incredible journey in comedy. This lively event, brought to life by Talent Africa Group, known for their inventive approaches to entertainment in Uganda, kicked off with an electric atmosphere and a glamorous red-carpet entrance.
Guests strutted down the red carpet, capturing their stylish moments before being served delightful Uganda Waragi Lemon & Ginger cocktails—a perfect precursor to the evening’s roasting festivities.
Kicking off the evening’s program was comedian Daniel Omara, who delivered a clever and captivating set, preempting the playful banter that was to come. The moment the official show launched, the charismatic MCs, Tuwangye Richard and Deedan Muyiira, welcomed everyone with infectious energy before introducing the night’s lineup of “Grill Chefs.”
The roasters included a vibrant mix of comedic talents, from veterans like Salvador to fresh faces such as Madrat and Chico, Nana Kagga, GNL Zamba, Gaetano Kaggwa, Dr. Miria Matembe, Prim Asiimwe, and Skylanta. Each performer infused their unique style of humor, shining a spotlight on the diverse comedy scene in Uganda.
In a heartfelt moment during the event, Hillary Baguma, Brand Manager for Mainstream Spirits at Uganda Breweries, shared, “Witnessing such extraordinary talent unite was genuinely touching. As Uganda Waragi Lemon & Ginger, we’re honored to have lit up this unforgettable evening, encapsulating the essence of being Ugandan.”
Making a grand entrance in a stunning floral pink gown, Anne Kansiime embraced the playful jabs thrown her way, radiating warmth and laughter. The legendary GNL Zamba was the first roaster to seize the mic, targeting both Kansiime and his fellow performers with his signature playful wit. With each comedian taking the stage, the laughter intensified, as jokes and witty comebacks flew thick and fast, keeping the audience in a fit of giggles.
Even Aly Allibhai, the CEO of Talent Africa, became a target for the roasting but handled it with grace. “This night marks a significant milestone for both Anne and our entertainment landscape,” he reflected. “Teaming up with Uganda Waragi enabled us to craft an innovative celebration that underscores Anne’s brilliance and the heart of our comedy. The laughter and unity we experienced tonight will linger for years to come.”
When Anne Kansiime finally took the stage, her happiness was palpable. “You’ve let me be foolish, and my heart has never felt more fulfilled,” she said, bursting into laughter. She closed the event with her own set of playful jabs and heartfelt gratitude for her supporters, guests, fellow performers, and everyone who has stood by her side throughout her incredible journey over the last decade.
As the night came to a close, the audience left with a renewed sense of camaraderie, having witnessed the inception of a remarkable new tradition in Ugandan comedy.
The Comedy Grill honoring Anne Kansiime was aptly sponsored by Talent Africa Group, Uganda Waragi, Capital FM, Sheraton Hotel, and SafeBoda.
