In an emotional revelation, Gun Interactive introduced The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game in August 2023, but now, less than two years later, they’ve confirmed that the game will no longer receive any major updates.
Addressing their community, Gun Interactive reflected, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will not be receiving any further future content or support.” They clarified, “This means that no DLC, balance adjustments, or bug resolutions will follow our next patch in May. Nevertheless, players can expect some occasional updates aimed at shifting to a peer-to-peer matchmaking system. The game will still be accessible for play and will remain available on digital platforms. Our community team is dedicated to maintaining connections with you, continuing to celebrate the legacy of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre alongside our passionate fans.”
While it’s reassuring that players can still enjoy the game, the announcement casts a somber shadow, placing it among other cherished titles, such as Friday the 13th: The Game and Evil Dead: The Game.
Gun Interactive took pride in their finished product, stating, “We feel proud of the game we’ve made and we’re happy that we’re at a point where we feel The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has reached its full potential. From the very beginning, we’ve always had a clear and concise vision for this game. We wanted to push the envelope on multiplayer asymmetrical horror, shed light on this iconic film to a newer generation, and place folks into the beautiful but macabre world of Muerto County. We feel we have achieved that.”
This spine-chilling game boasts an impressive lineup of talent from the horror industry, featuring notable names like Kane Hodder, Barbara Crampton, and Scout Taylor Compton, along with other prominent figures such as Skeet Ulrich, Bill Moseley, and Edwin Neal. The plot unfolds several months before the original film, focusing on Ana Flores and her college friends as they embark on a harrowing journey to uncover the fate of her missing sister, Maria.
Clearly, this decision was not made lightly by Gun Interactive. They expressed their gratitude to the gaming community, stating, “As a creative studio, it’s imperative to communicate that we’ve seen this vision through to the natural creative end.” They went on, “We are a scrappy group of horror heads and artists, continuously working on bringing cinematic experiences to you all. We sincerely appreciate those who resonate with the vision we bring to the asymmetrical multiplayer horror space. It may not cater to everyone, but for those who have expanded their gaming experience to include The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, delighting in the terror, beauty, and chaos with friends, your enthusiasm motivates us to keep doing what we do best… create your favorite horror games. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
