Set for May 21 to 24, 2025, the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) is poised to be a transformative event for Uganda’s tourism landscape, taking place at the scenic Speke Resort Munyonyo.

This premier travel and tourism trade fair is organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). It aims to bring together essential stakeholders, including international buyers, investors, and media representatives, to highlight Uganda’s diverse attractions and opportunities.

The event will culminate in an exhilarating cultural festival on May 24, showcasing performances from renowned African artists. Notable contributors to the lineup include the legendary music group Blu 3, as well as popular performers like Ssuna Ben, Winnie Nwagi, Aliddeki Brian, and comedian Salvado, who will co-host the celebrations alongside Sheilla Gashumba and Sheilla Salta.

A highlight of this year’s expo will be the participation of IGC, a cutting-edge Ugandan fashion brand established by Katende Godfrey. Appointed as the official fashion curator for the event, IGC is emphasizing a message of sustainability intertwined with Uganda’s rich cultural legacy. Their showcase will reveal ten innovative designs that explore the evolution of Lubugo, the traditional barkcloth, illustrating its transition into modern fashion.

Kicking off on May 21, the opening ceremony will feature a dynamic dance-and-runway presentation by IGC, followed by an accessible fashion exhibit from May 21 to 23, inviting the public to appreciate this artistic expression of Ugandan culture and eco-friendly designs.

On the expo’s final day, IGC will take center stage at the Culture Corner, delivering a captivating showcase that integrates fashion, art, and craftsmanship. Attendees can expect a runway display of their Evolution of Lubugo collection, along with collaborative works from local artists, nurtured in partnership with the British Council.

IGC’s involvement at POATE 2025 underscores a growing recognition that creative industries, grounded in sustainability and cultural identity, are essential to shaping Uganda’s future.

This ambitious initiative is backed by numerous sponsors, including the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, the Uganda Tourism Board, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Skills Excel, and the British Council. POATE 2025 stands as a promising opportunity for Uganda’s tourism to flourish.

Entrance to the expo is complimentary from May 21 to 23, while tickets for the Music and Cultural Festival on May 24 are priced at 20,000 UGX for general access and 50,000 UGX for a VIP experience.
