Naomi Judd may have inadvertently turned her song “Have Mercy” into a rallying cry for her husband after he revealed a shocking story—she once shot at him!
This remarkable revelation comes from the two-part Lifetime docuseries “The Judd Family: Truth Be Told,” which is set to air this weekend. In it, Larry Strickland, Naomi’s widower, reflects on a captivating tale that made its way into her 1993 memoir “Love Can Build a Bridge.”
In her memoir, Judd describes her deeply passionate love for Strickland, whom she married in 1989, yet she also confesses her struggles, suggesting he wasn’t always faithful to her.
The television movie inspired by that very memoir depicts a powerful scene where Naomi, portrayed by Kathleen York, confronts Larry, played by Bruce Greenwood, and ends up shooting him upon discovering his betrayal. Larry witnessed this dramatic moment in the latest docuseries.
When asked to share his thoughts on that jaw-dropping scene, Larry replied, “Well, it really happened. That’s all I can say. That’s all I’m gonna say. It happened.”
Despite the turbulent moments they faced, Naomi and Larry emerged stronger from those trials, remaining married for an impressive 33 years until Naomi tragically passed away from suicide in 2022.
“The Judd Family: Truth Be Told” explores Naomi’s challenging childhood, her complex relationship with daughter Wynonna, and the ups and downs of their journey as the celebrated Grammy-winning duo, The Judds.
