The eagerly awaited The Sinking City Remastered has surfaced, albeit sooner than fans had expected! This enhanced edition, which utilizes the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, is now available across multiple platforms including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
For those who haven’t experienced it yet, this gripping narrative follows haunted private investigator Charles Reed. He ventures through the chillingly flooded city of Oakmont, Massachusetts, in search of solace from his troubling visions. While the game features intense combat influenced by cosmic horror, it is predominantly focused on exploration and investigation, presenting players with numerous open-ended cases throughout its expansive world.
The Remastered edition expertly retains the original’s essence while offering an array of visual upgrades and much-requested quality-of-life enhancements. Players can look forward to revitalized environments illuminated by new lighting effects, enhanced details, and textures in stunning 4K resolution. Improvements also encompass refined reflections, gameplay tweaks, and expanded accessibility options. For those on PC, advanced features like DLSS, FSR, and TSR upscaling are included, along with a newly added photo mode.
To mark the launch of The Sinking City Remastered, Frogwares has released a new trailer showcasing the striking differences between the 2019 original and the revamped version powered by Unreal Engine 5. If this glimpse into the eerie world has rekindled your sense of adventure, you can dive into this cosmic horror-inspired journey today on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Moreover, owners of the original game will have access to this remastered experience at no additional cost!
This remastered version sets a solid foundation for The Sinking City 2, which successfully met its crowdfunding goals on Kickstarter earlier this year. The sequel shifts the setting back to 1920s America, inviting players to explore the submerged streets and dilapidated buildings of Arkham, aiming to deliver a thrilling survival horror experience that contrasts with the investigative tone of its predecessor.
This excitement comes in light of Frogwares’ extensive legal dispute with publisher Nacon regarding the rights to the original game. With that chapter now behind them, Frogwares not only regained the publishing rights for The Sinking City but has also updated the Steam version and released new downloadable content. Despite the ongoing invasion by Russia, the Ukrainian studio has continued to create, having recently launched Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened in 2023.
“We are on the brink of achieving great things with The Sinking City franchise, starting with the sequel and moving beyond,” remarked Sergiy Oganesyan, the publishing director at Frogwares. “After our well-documented challenges with the original, it is incredibly fulfilling to have this positive moment in the game’s complex history and to finally have control. Offering the Remastered version for free to our dedicated fans is our way of thanking them for their steadfast support through all the ups and downs.”
