Exciting news for gamers: Mafia: The Old Country is officially set to debut on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 8th, as confirmed by 2K.
This date had previously been spotted on Steam, only to be quickly taken down. Fortunately, it appears that the recent delay of GTA 6 by Rockstar Games, a sister company under Take-Two, hasn’t affected this release schedule.
Alongside a newly unveiled gameplay trailer (check it out below), 2K shared that the game will retail for £45/$50. Developer Hangar 13 has described Mafia: The Old Country as a “focused, linear” journey. In simpler terms, this means it’s designed to be a shorter and more straightforward experience that fits nicely into the busy schedules of gamers who are accustomed to live-service titles.
David Ismailer, president of 2K, stated, “We believe there’s a sizable audience for engaging stories that don’t demand extensive time commitments. We’re thrilled to add Mafia: The Old Country to our lineup, offering a polished narrative experience that can easily pair with the more enduring games that our players frequently enjoy.”
In other words, don’t put your controller down for GTA Online just yet!
Set against the backdrop of early 1900s Sicily—hence the title The Old Country—this installment aims to return to the original essence of the Mafia series, especially after the modern take of Mafia 3. First teased last year at Gamescom 2024, this latest chapter comes from the studio behind Mafia 3 and Mafia: Definitive Edition, and it’s the first to leverage the power of Unreal Engine 5.
