James Foley, a legendary figure in the film industry best known for directing two pivotal films in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy, has passed away.
The beloved director succumbed earlier this week after bravely battling brain cancer, as confirmed by his representative.
Beginning his cinematic journey in the mid-1980s, Foley captivated audiences with his debut feature film “Reckless,” soon transitioning to direct a plethora of music videos that captured the essence of the era.

Throughout his career, Foley created numerous unforgettable music videos for Madonna, bringing her iconic hits like “Live to Tell,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” and “True Blue” to vivid life on screens everywhere.
Foley rose to global fame with his mesmerizing adaptation of David Mamet‘s celebrated play “Glengarry Glen Ross,” skillfully directing acting giants like Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey, and Jack Lemmon. Pacino’s stunning performance even garnered an Academy Award nomination.
In recent years, Foley continued to captivate audiences with his artistic vision through films such as “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Free.” His impressive résumé also includes directing “Billions,” “House of Cards,” “Hannibal,” “Perfect Stranger,” “Fear,” and even “Twin Peaks.”
