Kaja Sokola, one of Harvey Weinstein‘s accusers, shared a chilling account of her experience, revealing that Weinstein boasted about being responsible for the fame of stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Penélope Cruz—this, she stated, occurred right after he allegedly assaulted her as a teenager.
During her emotional testimony at Manhattan Supreme Court, Kaja, now 39, recounted the horror she felt at just 16 years old. After the traumatic event, she felt an overwhelming urge to scream, but Weinstein’s menacing words echoed in her mind, reminding her that silence was her only option if she ever wanted to achieve success like the stars he referenced.
Recounting the details of the alleged incident, Sokola revealed that Weinstein had taken her to his Soho loft under the pretense of enjoying lunch together. What transpired next was a harrowing experience in the bathroom, where he reportedly assaulted her in a manner that would leave scars far deeper than the physical.
She vividly remembered her gaze meeting his in the bathroom mirror, describing his eyes as dark and menacing. It was then that Weinstein issued a chilling warning—that the ordeal they were enduring needed to remain a secret if she ever hoped to find the same success as Gwyneth and Penélope.
Sokola didn’t shy away from expressing her fear of Weinstein, yet the glimmer of hope for her acting aspirations kept drawing her back to him. In 2004, she sought a meeting with him, only to find herself entangled in yet another traumatic experience. She also recounted a disturbing encounter from 2006, where Weinstein allegedly coerced her into performing oral sex.
Although Weinstein was convicted in 2020, the legal tide turned when an appeals court overturned his convictions, citing violations of his constitutional rights. Now, he faces a retrial, as prosecutors seek justice once more. Notably, Sokola did not testify during the previous trial, but her voice now adds another layer to this ongoing saga.
