Excitement is in the air as Frankie Muniz recently announced on social media that he has wrapped up filming for the highly-anticipated Malcolm in the Middle revival set to debut on Disney+. In his heartfelt reflection, Muniz shared that this experience rekindled his passion for acting, urging him to explore more creative avenues in his career.
His announcement radiated enthusiasm as he said, “Just wrapped filming the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, and man, I’m still reeling. This experience was straight-up incredible—like stepping back into Malcolm’s wild world but with all the love and chaos cranked to 11. Reuniting with the cast, getting to know some new characters, laughing till it hurt, and making new memories on set felt like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from. It went by so fast, like a blur of perfect moments. I wish it could go on forever.”
Muniz went on to share his delight in revisiting his iconic character, emphasizing, “I’m so happy to have gotten the chance to relive being on this show with a greater appreciation of what we were making knowing how many people around the world truly love Malcolm and his family. Another big thing I am taking away from this experience is how much I truly love being an actor. I never officially felt like that label fit me, but now I wear that label proudly and hope to do so much more of it in the future. I am so sad to have to say goodbye to my MITM crew, I love each and everyone of you.”
This revival consists of four episodes that follow Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter as they tackle family turmoil during Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek)’s 40th wedding anniversary celebration. Linwood Boomer, the original creator of the show, returns to write the revival, while seasoned director Ken Kwapis will oversee all four episodes.
Original cast members Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield will reprise their roles as Malcolm’s brothers, Francis and Reese. Meanwhile, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps in to portray Dewey, filling the void left by Erik Per Sullivan’s departure from acting. The youngest brother, previously shown as an infant, will now be played by Anthony Timpano, while Vaughan Murrae introduces Kelly, a character hinted at during the original series finale. Kelly is described as “self-sufficient” and “already wiser than most of the family.“
Moreover, the revival will include fresh faces, featuring Kiana Madeira as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend, and Keeley Karsten as Leah, Malcolm’s daughter. Leah is crafted to embody her father’s “sarcastic humor, impulsiveness, and frighteningly high intelligence,” albeit with a more sensitive and emotional demeanor.
