In a surprising turn of events just days after announcing a “pause” in development for any new titles in the World Rally Championship series, EA has confirmed the “reduction of some roles” at its Codemasters studio.
Earlier this week, EA revealed its split from the World Rally Championship, leaving many uncertain about the effects on the Codemasters team. The specifics regarding affected staff members remained vague at that time.
In a statement to VGC, EA refrained from disclosing the exact number of impacted staff but noted: “As a business, we are continually adapting to fulfill the evolving interests of our players and to sharpen our focus across our portfolio.”
“This has led us to evaluate role reductions, while we strive to redeploy as many individuals as possible in line with our strategic objectives,” the statement concluded.
EA’s move to terminate its WRC collaboration follows an announcement made last year, during which they laid off 670 employees, indicating a shift away from “future licensed IP” towards their “owned IP, sports, and vast online communities.”
Adding to the unfolding situation, recent layoffs at EA reportedly affected between “300 and 400” employees just days ago. This means around 2200 developers have lost their jobs within the first four months of 2025 alone.
