Demi Moore and Colman Domingo are set to star in Strange Arrivals, an innovative romantic narrative interwoven with the chilling theme of alien abduction. This film draws its inspiration from the extraordinary real-life events surrounding Betty and Barney Hill, an interracial couple whose story is adapted from a podcast by Toby Ball.
In 1961, Betty and Barney Hill gained notoriety as the first individuals to publicly report an alien abduction after returning from their honeymoon in Niagara Falls. This landmark occurrence thrust the couple into the spotlight, transforming them into overnight sensations. However, their newfound fame could not overshadow the deeply personal and unsettling revelations of that night, challenging the very foundation of their relationship.
At the helm of Strange Arrivals is Roger Ross Williams, celebrated for his directorial work on Stamped from the Beginning. Jane Anderson, known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning adaptation of Olive Kitteridge, has penned the screenplay.
Williams shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, remarking, “Working with such gifted actors is a dream for any director. The synergy between Demi and Colman, along with Jane Anderson’s emotionally resonant script that explores the nuances of the human experience, promises to create something truly magical. I’m also thrilled to partner with the brilliant team at See-Saw, recognized for their commitment to artistically ambitious storytelling; we are incredibly lucky to have their expertise.”
Betty and Barney Hill’s narrative is familiar to many, having previously been portrayed in the 1975 television film The UFO Incident, which starred James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons in leading roles.
Both Moore and Domingo come to this project with remarkable achievements, as evidenced by their recent Oscar nominations—Moore for her performance in The Substance and Domingo for his role in Sing Sing.
Recently, Moore appeared in the first season of Taylor Sheridan’s series Landman on Paramount+, where she is slated to reprise her role in the upcoming second season that’s currently in progress.
Meanwhile, Domingo is featured in the ensemble cast of The Four Seasons, which includes well-known talents such as Tina Fey and Steve Carell. This adaptation of Alan Alda’s 1981 film has recently been renewed for a second season. Critics have praised Domingo’s performance, highlighting his compelling portrayal alongside co-star Marco Calvani as a couple navigating the complexities of an open marriage while managing personal health struggles and nurturing their profound bond. Our own Alex Maidy noted, “Domingo and Calvani bring their characters to life with remarkable depth and sincerity, avoiding the pitfalls of cliché.”
