Last year, the excitement surged when Charles Band’s Full Moon Productions announced the birth of a bold new venture: Pulp Noir. This thrilling production label promises a dive into the darker, edgier sides of horror and fantasy, crafting films that linger in the shadows. Among the initial titles released under this daring banner are Quadrant and Death Streamer. Both films debuted in vibrant color, but here’s the twist: each will also receive a haunting black-and-white release that channels the noir aesthetic, accessible on the Full Moon Features streaming service. As we eagerly await further Pulp Noir projects, Band has revisited the vault of Full Moon classics, revamping several older titles with the noir treatment.

The noir series kicked off with a striking black-and-white rendition of the 1984 sci-fi thriller, the holiday sensation Trancers. But that’s just the beginning! Following its lead, noir versions have been unleashed for the 1997 creature feature The Creeps, the 2007 film The Haunted Casino (also known as Dead Man’s Hand), the 2012 “insane comedy chiller” The Dead Want Women, the grotesque 2004 sci-fi horror Dr. Moreau’s House of Pain, and the 2009 chilling flick Skull Heads. And now, horror aficionados can feast their eyes on Hideous Noir, a black-and-white version of the 1997 classic directed by Band himself, available for streaming on Full Moon Features and YouTube. Check out the captivating trailer above!

The screenplay, penned by Neal Marshal Stevens under the alias Benjamin Carr, paints Hideous as a delightful concoction of “spastic, sexy mad science and monster mash.” The plot follows the eccentric Dr. Lorca, an obsessive collector of bizarre biological specimens, who has just acquired a grotesque mutant formed from toxic waste. However, the rightful owner isn’t ready to relinquish this abomination. Just as the clash of collectors heats up, the FBI barges in, and the nightmarish creature comes alive, unleashing a tide of angry, oozing monstrosities!

This riotous film features a talented cast including Jacqueline Lovell (Trophy Heads), Michael Citriniti (Ravenwolf Towers), Mel Johnson Jr. (Total Recall), along with Rhonda Griffin (The Creeps), Tracie May-Wagner (Shattered Lies), Jerry O’Donnell (Alias), Mircea Constantinescu (They’re Watching), Alexandru Agarici (Dark Angel: The Ascent), and Andrew Johnston.
