Renowned for his work in the realm of nocturnal filmmaking, Chad Stahelski is embarking on an electrifying new project titled Sentinel. This action-driven drama surfaces amidst the chaos of a rogue drone causing mayhem in an unpredictable world. Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment has paired with Capstone Studios in a bid to ignite a franchise that aims to redefine the landscape of contemporary action cinema.
Guided by J. Houston Yang—whose credits include the engaging short Good Boy and notable features like Abduction and Up Next—Sentinel emerges from a compelling narrative crafted by Yang himself. The screenplay has been meticulously penned by Joe Barnathan and Marcus Rinehart, ensuring a narrative that grips audiences from start to finish. Both Capstone and WME Independent are gearing up to present this thrilling project at the prestigious Cannes market. Production is slated to begin this fall, with Stahelski collaborating closely with his dedicated 87Eleven team, including Alex Young, Jason Spitz, and Capstone’s Christian Mercuri and Marc Goldberg. The production will also benefit from the insights of executive producers David Haring and Roman Viaris at Capstone Studios.
According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the plot of Sentinel centers on a “blue-collar mechanic who, after witnessing the assassination of his boss, finds himself fleeing for his life in a hostile wilderness, pursued by a relentless rogue drone. With an unexpected ally by his side, he must navigate perilous hurdles while uncovering a chilling secret.”
“Our partnership with Capstone Studios to launch this near-future action franchise excites us immensely,” shared Stahelski and Young from 87Eleven. “This venture delves into futuristic narratives that promise to resonate with global audiences. Houston’s imaginative interpretation of our concept is poised to enthrall viewers, keeping them hungry for what’s next.”
Yang, already a revered figure in Hollywood known for his dual roles as an editor and an action designer, brings an extensive background to the table. With over a decade of consulting experience, he is set to stamp his authority on the action genre through Sentinel.
Simultaneously, Stahelski is immersed in a flurry of high-profile projects, including the eagerly awaited Highlander remake featuring Henry Cavill and the adaptation of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, currently in the pre-production phase. Stahelski will direct Highlander, guided by a script from a trio of talented writers: Ryan J. Condal, Michael Finch, and Kerry Williamson. This reimagining showcases Cavill as an immortal Scottish swordsman battling others of his ilk for ultimate power. Meanwhile, Ghost of Tsushima narrates the tale of Jin Sakai, the last member of his clan, who must follow an unconventional path to secure the future of Tsushima. Furthermore, fans are treated to the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, set for release on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
