In a surprising announcement, Activision has revealed that it will cease support for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, only a year after its launch. The company will halt all updates related to seasonal content for this mobile iteration of their widely recognized shooter franchise.

In a message directed at the player community, Activision expressed understanding that this decision might come as a disappointment. They stated that the mobile version “has not met expectations” from the mobile gaming audience compared to its performance on other platforms like PC and consoles. The statement included gratitude for the community’s “commitment and enthusiasm” during the game’s run.

The company elaborated that they are “streamlining the scope of the game after careful reflection.” While they take pride in expanding the Call of Duty universe to mobile devices, they ultimately considered the mobile edition to be ineffective in retaining player engagement.

Effective immediately, players will be unable to buy Call of Duty Points or the Black Cell pack. This decision also includes the stop of new seasonal content and gameplay updates. Importantly, players will have until May 18, 2025, to download the game from Google Play and the Apple App Store, after which these options will no longer be available. Furthermore, social features of the game will be discontinued across both platforms.

For those who successfully download the game before the cutoff, they will still be able to access features such as cross-progression and shared inventories, which will allow them to spend any remaining COD Points at that time. However, starting May 19, downloading the game will be prohibited, and players will no longer be able to make real-money purchases for in-game content.

While the duration for how long the game will remain operational continues to be unclear, Activision has made it known that “refunds will not be provided for previously acquired in-game items or unused COD Points.” They have reiterated their appreciation for the community’s feedback and support, conceding that the news may be jarring.

To help soften the impact, Activision mentioned there would be unique incentives for players of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile if they transition to playing Call of Duty: Mobile, encouraging users to experience it at no cost.

Notably, the original mobile iteration of Call of Duty flourishes, having reached an impressive 650 million downloads as of May 2022, starkly contrasting the challenges faced by Warzone Mobile.
