Rising talent Dafne Keen is poised to enthrall audiences once again as she takes the lead in two highly anticipated horror films that follow her breakout performances in Deadpool and Logan. The first of these spine-chilling experiences, Night Comes, marks the directorial debut of Jay Hernandez, who collaborated with Jason Bourque and Nancy Isaak on the screenplay. This production, backed by Impossible Dream Entertainment and Big Picture Cinema Group, promises a narrative steeped in suspense and terror.
In addition to Night Comes, Keen shines in the upcoming horror film Whistle, helmed by Corin Hardy, whose previous works include the chilling The Nun. Recently, Shudder and Independent Film Company boldly stepped forward to acquire Whistle for distribution, amplifying excitement among horror aficionados.
Adapted from the short story by Owen Egerton, Whistle features an ensemble cast, including Keen, Sophie Nélisse of Yellowjackets, Sky Yang from Rebel Moon, Percy Hynes White of My Old Ass, and comedic actor Nick Frost, known for his roles in How to Train Your Dragon. The film revolves around a group of high school misfits who stumble upon a cursed Aztec relic known as the Death Whistle. Once they learn that blowing it could seal their own fates, they must decipher its ominous legacy to evade a horrifying destiny.
In discussing his vision for Whistle, Hardy stated, “Whistle captures the unrestrained essence of disenfranchised youth that I’ve admired in horror films throughout my life. The tantalizing mythology surrounding this ‘Death Whistle’ motivated me to conceive of an array of imaginative and chilling demises. It’s crafted to resonate on the big screen, and I’m excited for audiences to share in this thrilling ride alongside Independent Film Company and Shudder!”
Echoing these sentiments, Adam Koehler, the Director of Acquisitions and Productions for IFC and Shudder, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Corin Hardy is an exceptional storyteller, and we are thrilled to present his visionary horror narrative to viewers across the country. Whistle is a visceral, exhilarating work that is sure to leave an indelible mark on the genre.” Fans can catch a sneak peek of the terror that lies ahead in the first trailer, available below.
