World Whisky Day

On Saturday, May 20, 2025, the Mediterraneo Restaurant in the heart of Kololo transformed into a celebratory hub for whisky aficionados, marking World Whisky Day in partnership with Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) and their prestigious single-malt whisky, The Singleton.

Renowned for its rustic charm and delectable Italian cuisine, Mediterraneo offered an ideal setting for an evening dedicated to the nuances of whisky appreciation. Guests relished a thoughtfully curated menu, where every dish was paired with a generous double pour of Singleton 12-Year-Old whisky, along with signature cocktails crafted to elevate the culinary experience.

The evening’s menu featured culinary highlights, including expertly seared sirloin steak seasoned with robust black pepper and rosemary, harmonizing beautifully with the Singleton 12. Additionally, slow-cooked pork ribs seasoned to perfection tantalized the taste buds of attendees.

Guests were invited to explore the extensive heritage of The Singleton during an insightful mentorship session led by an esteemed whisky expert. This enriching experience delved into the brand’s storied history, production techniques, and distinctive tasting profiles, enhancing attendees’ appreciation of the spirit. At the Singleton booth, participants tasted the smooth and fruity Singleton 12, known for its hints of honey and vanilla, alongside the more complex Singleton 15, rich with spiced oak and dried fruit, ideal for seasoned connoisseurs.

World Whisky Day celebration

“Our celebration of World Whisky Day was designed to transcend ordinary experiences and pay tribute to flavor, craftsmanship, and the joy of togetherness,” stated Christine Kyokunda, Brand Manager for The Singleton at UBL. “By collaborating with Mediterraneo, we encapsulated the essence of The Singleton—accessible, flavor-rich, and truly unforgettable.”

The atmosphere was further enriched by captivating live performances from a talented trio of musicians—a pianist, violinist, and cellist—who delivered a mesmerizing soundtrack for the evening. As guests savored their whiskies, the ensemble enchanted the audience with elegant interpretations of classics like “Clair de Lune,” Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect,” and a medley of cherished Ugandan songs, turning the garden terrace into a vibrant tapestry of sound and artistry.

As whisky lovers globally raised their glasses in celebration, the gathering in Kampala resonated with this universal spirit of camaraderie, uniting attendees in a memorable evening filled with rich stories and experiential delights.
