In an exhilarating partnership, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are developing a fresh adaptation provisionally titled Incidents Around the House, in conjunction with Spin a Black Yarn for Universal Pictures. Leading the project is James Wan from Atomic Monster, with a stellar lineup of executive producers, including Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, and Ryan Lewis. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing the production for Atomic Monster, while Nathan Elston, a writer renowned for his contributions to Succession, is on board to craft the screenplay.

The buzz surrounding this film surged recently with the announcement that Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain will be in a principal role. Directing the project is Rob Savage, known for the acclaimed horror film The Boogeyman. This screenplay draws inspiration from a haunting novel penned by Josh Malerman, the author famous for Bird Box. According to Deadline, Jay Duplass has also signed on to star alongside Chastain, adding further excitement. Duplass, recognized for his indie work with brother Mark, recently marked his directing comeback with The Baltimorons, his first project in over ten years, which premiered at SXSW this spring.

While specific details about the film remain scarce, the core of Malerman’s novel suggests a deeply unsettling storyline. The narrative unfolds through the perspective of a young girl who, along with her family, is under the looming threat posed by a menacing entity referred to as ‘Other Mommy.’ This storyline resonates with fans familiar with Chastain’s previous roles in horror films, especially her performance in Mama, where children also speak of a similar supernatural figure.

Delving deeper into Malerman’s eerie tale: Eight-year-old Bela perceives her family as her whole world, comprising her mother, father (Daddo), and Grandma Ruth. However, an unsettling shadow looms in the form of Other Mommy, who incessantly whispers to Bela, “Can I go inside your heart?” As strange occurrences intensify within their home, signaling Other Mommy’s growing impatience, Bela must confront a terrifying truth. Continued refusals could jeopardize her family’s safety. The bonds within her family are crucial, yet ominous signs reveal cracks in her parents’ relationship, threatening her sense of security. Time runs short as she grapples with the urgent need for an answer that might determine their fates. For those intrigued by the story, the novel is available for purchase at THIS LINK.
