Gamers familiar with PowerWash Simulator can attest to its quirky storytelling, rivaling even some of the most cryptic tales found in FromSoftware’s titles. Within the splashes of soapy water, we’ve encountered mysteriously vanished cats, shady politicians, Hollywood legends, entrepreneurial toilet moguls, and even forgotten Atlantean civilizations. Now, it’s time to celebrate as developer FuturLab announces the arrival of PowerWash Simulator 2, promising even more delightful narratives.
FuturLab recently opened up about the engaging lore in the first developer blog for PowerWash Simulator 2. The sequel takes place several years after the original, within a reimagined, post-volcano landscape. The Ancient Statue, which came alive in the first installment, continues to emit an enormous beam, much to the irritation of Caldera County’s residents, who are less than thrilled about it becoming a hotspot for the supernatural.
As for our intrepid Powerwasher protagonist, life isn’t without its challenges. “It was fulfilling to play a part in averting a catastrophic volcanic event by cleaning the Sea Temple of an ancient civilization,” says FuturLab writer Mark. “However, saving the world doesn’t exactly fill the pockets. Thus, our hero has thrown themselves into work to afford a stylish new Home Base, which sets the stage for our new adventure.”
Of course, a fancy new HQ doesn’t come without a price tag. The Powerwasher must again hit the streets to tackle more cleaning jobs in order to replace the equipment they had to part with. This new collection of tasks promises fresh lore, as players will return to a hub in Caldera County equipped with a pinboard that fills with newspaper clippings over time as Career mode progresses. “This will seamlessly weave narrative elements into the gameplay, keeping players engaged with the unfolding story,” Mark explained.
Reflecting on the first PowerWash Simulator, Mark pointed out that its most significant flaw—its optional lore that had no impact on gameplay—turned out to be its greatest asset. It allowed for creative storytelling that culminated in levels where players cleaned UFOs and ventured into Atlantis. “It would have been hard to arrive at such wild conclusions without a narrative framework, though finishing in Atlantis was always the goal.”
“For PowerWash Simulator 2,” Mark elaborated, “we’ve retained a similar philosophy. Our primary focus when designing jobs revolves around game mechanics—ensuring they provide enjoyable washing experiences. Then we weave the storyline in to influence some of our levels.” If you’re eager for a sneak peek at the upcoming gameplay, FuturLab promises to share more details in their next developer blog. Early reveals indicate players can expect to clean a parade float, a tram, and even a whimsical teapot house.
“It’s been an absolute honor to craft the narrative for PowerWash Simulator 2,” Mark concluded in FuturLab’s update, “and we hope that fans craving lore will truly appreciate the direction we’ve taken.”
While PowerWash Simulator 2 doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, it’s slated for launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and possibly the Switch 2 later this year. In the meantime, those looking to indulge in some cleaning can revisit the first game, which recently added a new stage, Muckingham’s Dessert Parlour, in a complimentary update.
