Trey Sermon Makes a Move: Joining the Steelers as a Free Agent

In an exciting turn of events, former Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon is set to embark on a new chapter with the Pittsburgh Steelers, having reportedly inked a one-year contract. The news was first shared by NFL insider Jordan Schultz from FOX Sports .

Over the past two seasons, Sermon donned the Colts’ colors and took on the vital role of primary backup in the latest campaign.

In 2024, he recorded 56 rushing attempts, averaging 2.8 yards per carry and findng the end zone twice. Additionally, Sermon proved his versatility by catching 16 of 18 passes for 99 yards, as detailed by PFF.

Meanwhile, the Colts will continue to rely on their star running back Jonathan Taylor as the driving force. However, the team’s depth at the position has undergone significant changes. General Manager Chris Ballard made headlines when he acquired Khalil Herbert during free agency and then opted to draft DJ Giddens.

Ballard commented at the NFL combine earlier this offseason that bolstering production from the backup running back roles behind Taylor was essential for the Colts as they move forward this season.
