In today’s gaming landscape, Xbox has taken center stage, even influencing the success of Sony’s PS5. In fact, the top-selling titles for Sony’s console last month were a testament to this rivalry.

As highlighted by Sony, April’s most downloaded game on PS5 in Europe was none other than the freshly launched Forza Horizon 5, with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Minecraft following closely.

The trend continued in the US and Canada, where Oblivion led, trailed by Minecraft and Forza Horizon 5.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also made waves, ranking fourth in Europe and sixth in the US. This title has received vigorous backing from Xbox and is available on Game Pass.

Moreover, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was once a Microsoft exclusive, has also performed admirably on Sony’s platform.

Microsoft launched its “This is an Xbox” campaign back in November, setting the stage for a “future defined by player choice”.

Despite the teasing memes surrounding the campaign, its success is undeniable, as previously Xbox-only titles have migrated to PS5 and achieved impressive sales.

As we noted in our January report, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 emerged as the top-selling game across both Xbox and PlayStation platforms for the previous quarter. This follows Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision—and the coveted rights to Call of Duty—in 2023 for a staggering $68.7 billion.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, which dropped at the end of April, has enjoyed a warm reception on Steam and consoles alike, reaching a peak of 182,298 concurrent players on launch day, which soon swelled to 216,784.

“Forza Horizon stands as one of Xbox’s crowning achievements,” noted Nova Play’s Tom Orry, praising it as one of the greatest racing games ever. “PlayStation owners should be excited about this fantastic addition.”
