On a remarkable evening in Hungary, Tommy Fury marked his emphatic return to the boxing ring with a triumphant victory over Kenan Hanjalic, reigniting the spark that once lit up his promising career — and he didn’t hold back in calling out Jake Paul for a rematch.
The British boxer showcased his skills, earning a unanimous decision after a thrilling six-round cruiserweight contest at the MTK Arena in Budapest.
With this victory, Tommy handed Hanjalic just his second professional defeat, showcasing the resilience that Fury has honed through his challenging journey back to the sport.
Coming into the match, Hanjalic boasted a strong record, having won five of his six fights. For Tommy, it was a significant comeback after spending a year and a half away from the ring due to hand surgery, with his last appearance ending in a win over KSI in October 2023.
As the dust settled on the ring, Tommy’s focus swiftly shifted — not to celebrate his win, but to challenge Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer he previously defeated in February 2023.
In his post-fight interview, the 26-year-old did not hold back: “Jake Paul’s a coward, and he’s definitely trembling,” he declared, his passion unmistakable. “Hey Jake, the hand is fixed now, baby. The hand is all good.”
He further exclaimed, “I fought a man in here tonight with over a hundred amateur fights, an experienced tough nut. If Jake wants to step into the ring again, I promise that I will knock him out cold next time. After two years away, I’m ready to take him down anytime.”
Meanwhile, an emotional Jake Paul also shared his gratitude following this fight. “I just want to say thank you to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. None of this would have been possible without Him,” he expressed fervently.
He added, “A shout-out to my beautiful daughter Bambi and my sweetheart Molly, who will always have my heart. I dedicate this win to my parents, because without their sacrifices, I wouldn’t even be here today. They are the reason I stand where I am.”
Reflecting on the struggles he faced, he continued, “The last two years have been a tempestuous journey for me. I fell into darkness, grappling with personal demons — lost family, lost my way. But look at me now; I’ve risen from those ashes and am ready to claim my place again.”
With this latest victory, Fury’s professional record now stands at an impressive 11-0, including four knockouts to his name. His resilience and determination shine brightly as he sets sights on future challenges.
Adding to the family pride, Tommy’s brother Roman took to the undercard. He achieved a stunning victory over Josip Pehar, marking his second stoppage victory and maintaining an unblemished record of five wins from five fights.
Originally, Tommy was slated to make his comeback back in January against UFC fighter Darren Till. However, that bout fell through after he withdrew, citing concerns about Till’s threats to employ ‘MMA tactics’ in the ring.
In the meantime, Till faced Fury’s past opponent, Anthony Taylor, who had previously succumbed to Tommy’s will in their 2021 fight. Yet, in the rematch, Taylor fell to Till by technical knockout in the sixth round.
