Exciting news is brewing for the fans of Vince Vaughn as he gears up for his new gangster thriller, The Bookie & the Bruiser! Joining Vaughn, who is well-known for his roles in Bad Monkey and Brawl in Cell Block 99, is the talented Theo James, noted for his performances in The Monkey and The White Lotus. This collaboration promises a thrilling dive into the dangerous underbelly of 1950s New York City.
In this film, Vaughn teams up once again with director S. Craig Zahler, who previously guided him through intense narratives in Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Dragged Across Concrete. Zahler will take the reins not only as the director but also as the screenwriter for The Bookie & the Bruiser. This project is being produced by Academy Award-winner Anthony Katagas, known for his work on 12 Years a Slave and Ad Astra, alongside Dave Caplan of Longlegs fame.
Set against the gritty backdrop of 1959 New York City, The Bookie & the Bruiser tells the compelling story of Rivner (played by James), a contemplative Jewish man, and his partner Boscolo (Vaughn), a hefty Italian American tough guy. Both veterans of World War II, they return to a society that no longer accommodates their changed selves. Rejecting the constraints of their former lives, they dive into the underground world of illegal gambling, where profits roll in but danger lurks at every corner. Their burgeoning operation spirals out of control as they become entangled in a brutal power struggle involving both the Mafia and an Irish gang, leading to a fight for their very survival.
Theo James is fresh off his role in Osgood Perkins’s adaptation of The Monkey, a Stephen King short story that delighted fans by raking in an impressive $68.7 million worldwide. He has also recently completed shooting for Fuze, an action thriller directed by David Mackenzie, which centers around the chaos that erupts when an unexploded WWII bomb is discovered at a bustling London construction site.
Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn has been busy behind the scenes as well, producing Carlyle Eubank’s Broke, which stars Wyatt Russell and Dennis Quaid. The film follows True Brandywine (Russell), a rodeo rider caught in a harrowing blizzard, forcing him to confront life choices while braving the elements.
