Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green is set to embark on an exciting new journey in the upcoming CBS spinoff, Boston Blue, where she’ll be teaming up with none other than Donnie Wahlberg!
Scheduled to grace our screens this fall, the series will follow Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he leaves the familiar shores of New York City and his beloved family behind to join the Boston Police Department. There, he will be paired with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the ambitious eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement legacy. Talk about a dynamic duo!
Expressing her enthusiasm at a recent CBS press event, Martin-Green shared, “I’m gonna have to get a really good Boston accent, just so I can throw it out at times. We love the Reagans. We’ve adored them for so long. As Detective Lena Silver, coming from a distinguished law enforcement family, viewers will fall in love with the Silvers too. I’m truly excited about this partnership and to rejoin the CBS family.“
Wahlberg also expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful for the years on Blue Bloods, and it’s amazing to continue its tradition while exploring fresh narratives and new friendships. We’re truly expanding this universe in ways that I think both longtime viewers and newcomers will find incredibly exciting.“
For fans of the original series, there’s great news! Wahlberg hinted at familiar faces making guest appearances, remarking, “There’ll definitely be connective tissue to the original family. We’re excited to introduce a new family while still sharing the Reagans’ stories.“
The beloved original series was a juggernaut among CBS dramas, and many cast members were eager to keep the momentum going. Tom Selleck, who portrayed Frank Reagan, the steadfast NYPD Police Commissioner, expressed his desire for the show to continue, lamenting, “I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, do 10 episodes a year. But I’m not the boss. Everyone wanted to return, and with this amazing cast, it would have been a gift for the audience. I’m ready to celebrate the show, but I’m still processing it all.“ Who knows—could we see him popping up in Boston Blue?
